~Belly
Dance Top~
In my stash of fabrics I have for costuming
for ourselves as well as our costume business, I had a few yards of this gorgeous,
rust and gold-colored fabric that had been woven in India. One day I knew it would come in
handy, which is why I bought all that remained of it.
Being a dancer, I would see ads for the Middle-Eastern dance performances and
snippets of Middle-Eastern/Belly Dance classes where I dance twice a week. (Sadly, I have
not yet found time to attend the Middle-Eastern class in addition to my ballet and jazz
classes, though I have done it quite often "informally" with my sister and
friends, and I find it incredibly fun.) To make a long story short, I got inspired to make
a few belly dance tops to add to our costume business. The one I am wearing (right) was my
first stab at this style, and I decided to make one for myself to practice on, and get out
any little kinks before I sold any of these. I now know what not
to do when making this costume, and when we open the business officially in April '05, I
will have four of this specific top available for sale.
As for my own top, I now have something that
I can wear to a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy show (4th time for me!) if they come back to the 9:30
Club this summer. They're a blast and one of my long-time
favorite groups. Give 'em a listen, you'll love them. ;-)
