Black Dress Layer

~August 16, 2004~ Cut out my pattern that I am going to be using for this dress, so far it is working, but with a lot of editing. I'm using Simplicity 5917, view A and adding a WHOLE lot more length and flare to the skirt. I'm also splitting it up the middle just like the actual Black Pearl Gown. The gown is made from a taffeta like fabric in black that I bought from JoAnn's a while back. It's taking about 8 yards because I am fully lining it with self fabric. The front is going to close with at least 20 hooks and eyes, has lace around the neckline, black braid-trim down the front and neckline, and also is boned at the front of the bodice for support. (The plum part was not boned there so that it will be able to hang open at the top, so I decided to bone the under part.) I ended up making the back neck edge way to high, so I had to cut and shape that quite a bit. Next, I made the whole thing WAY to large, so the only way to take it in was in the back in kind of a pleat. I don't have any photos of this at the moment, but I will get some on as soon as I can. It's kind of like the way the white Rum Shift is pleated down the back. Surprisingly, everything turned out fine, it fits underneath the plum part, and I think will go over the shift just fine. :-)
