For Christmas this past year (2004) my *awesome* younger sister made me the ancient Celtic (Braveheart style) dress that I have been coveting for quite some time. She told me that she was making something for me, but would not tell me anything about it, other than the detail that I could wear it, despite the fact I drove her to the fabric stores to buy the fabric *g*. (She doesn't drive yet.) We would go into the store, and in order for me not to see the fabric she was picking out, I would be banished to a far corner of JoAnn's or Hancock's where I was left to look at the only fabric in that section: vinyl tablecloth material. How inspiring. ;-)

The construction of the dress Brynn did remarkably fast; about one day. For the dress part she used soft silk, that is actually very rough-looking but wonderfully soft, and for the sash she bought a nice green-plaid flannel which is about 2 yards in length. Very soft! There was no way she was going to put a zipper down the back (ack!) so she pounded 38 eyelets and laced it with a leather strip. Luckily, the dress fits so wonderfully that I don't have to lace and un-lace it every time I wear it! The sleeves at the end are slightly belled, though Brynn kind of panicked before she gave this to me. She barely had bought enough material, and she was worried about the upper part of the sleeves not fitting because I have rather muscular upper-arms due to other pastimes, lol! So...she put in the smallest seam possible, and it fits great - nice and loose. When I found out later about her paranoia, I laughed quite a bit.

When she gave it to me on Christmas morning I was awe-struck. Not only was it just absolutely perfect, it was also the first time anyone had ever made me a costume before. I usually make them for friends and family as gifts, but this was a first. The first sash she made for this costume was the same tartan, but out of actual wool, though it was half the size, she wanted a longer one. So, she gave me the wool one as a scarf, in addition to the dress, with a gift card to Hot Topic wrapped in it. Do I have the coolest little sister, or what?! :-D
This is the first time for my costume pictures that I didn't make anything that I am wearing. In addition to the dress and sash, I put on my Celtic belt I just bought at Maryland Ren Faire, and the Celtic-Cross pendant I have on was also a Christmas gift from my dad this year.

~THANK YOU, BRYNN, I LOVE YOU!!!! :-) ~

Right now it's about 5º F with the wind chill outside and there's snow on the ground. Not exactly ideal for picture-taking! Though let me tell you, we tried, lol!! When it warms up a little I'm going out to take better ones. These were just taken in my room this morning by Brynn - though I started getting distracted and dancing around to something in my CD player.

These two were taken last weekend (1-16-05) and are the only outdoor shots we have of it so far. I didn't have the camera on the right setting so the majority of them developed all washed out. Oh well.

::Picture Update:: We took these last week (1-27-04) up at the park, the weather warmed up maybe 15 or so degrees so I didn't freeze *too* much. It was still bloody cold, but at least there was no wind! It was really bright out, I'm squinting terribly, lol!
The last two shots I'm wearing the wool wrap that I just made. Waaarrrmm. :-D
Also, these were taken with the digital video camera so the quality is pretty bleak. (Takes crystal-clear films, but the stills are really shhii - ahem - crappy! ;-) ) I didn't feel like being bothered with the 35mm that day, haha.

Costume made by Brynn and modeled by Meaghan. Photos were taken by Brynn at various parks (and my room!). Page written by and made by Meaghan.
